They key thing to remember with baitcaster reels is that you need to “thumb” the spool as you cast. This means that some thumb pressure on every cast must be applied as you start and finish your cast.
Second key thing is not to focus on the reel as you cast, your eyes can’t prevent a backlash if they are looking at the reel, BUT your eyes can prevent it if you are focused on your bait.
If you keep your eyes on your bait and apply lots of thumb pressure just before your bait hits the water, you will be on your way to preventing the nasty “BIRD NEST” from happening.
