Hi AMFisHers ! This weeks AMFisH fishing vlog is about how to assess a really bad reel backlash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3BEloDd9FEQ
This is a great video to watch and quite easy to follow as well, I purposely slammed my bait off the water to create a backlash and ended up creating quite the nest of line off my spool.
Thought I would make a video like this to show you all that sometimes a reel backlash is not always what it seems to be. This one looks pretty bad but in the end by working it slowly the line sorts itself out, BUT if had tugged on it out of frustration I would have created more issues like big knots, tangles, loops you name it.
Sure is it hard to stay calm when it happens “yes” but in the long run it will save you a lot of time that could be spent fishing instead of sitting in the boat trying to untangle the worst backlash ever.
If you actually do end up getting a really bad one, take a few more minutes pull up a few extra loops off the spool and take the line off the spool slowly as to avoid creating other issues.
Hope this video was helpful in giving you a better understanding of how to assess a backlash when it happens.
