Hi fellow AMFisHers! This weeks AMFisH(LEARN more here: http://www.amfish.ca) fishing vlog is about casting into the wind affectively and what baits help you fish in the wind.
Many people dislike fishing in the wind because it can cause lots of issues with line tangles, trouble casting to spots you want, limited(if any) boat or kayak control, lots of issues to deal with on windy days.
So how do you battle these issues? For starters use heavier baits, as the weight alone will be enough to power through that wind. Second use more streamlined heavy baits, leaner style crankbaits with less drag and weight to help torpedo them through the wind.

What to avoid bait wise? Larger lighter baits, bulkier baits like spinnerbaits that can cause a lot of drag getting through the wind due to their shape.
Crankbaits in general will cut through wind easier due to the aerodynamic shape of them, not much to cause drag especially if they are heavier baits. The two lipless crankbaits below have great weight to them and sleek curvy body designs, making them great choices for casting into the wind as they are streamline and the wind passes right over them causing very little to no drag on the bait.

If the fish are biting when you cast into the wind heavier baits should be the choice. If the fish are striking when you cast with the wind any bait is a good choice, as the wind will carry it quite far no matter how bulky or how much drag it would get.
Example this larger spinnerbait below does have some good weight to it unfortunately due to it’s overall shape and bulkiness it creates drag during the cast, meaning the wind has a larger surface area to catch and actually slows the bait down. So on a very windy day casting into the wind I would probably avoid this bait until the wind calmed down or if the fish are hitting from the other direction by casting with the wind then you can use a bulky bait like this.

Windy days can create some great fishing days, so don’t avoid them find ways to utilize the wind to your advantage.
Hope you found this vlog helpful!
