Most of us have tried casting a big bait at some point with our regular fishing gear and the result is feeling like your rod and reel are about to snap.
It’s a entirely new ballgame as regular gear does have a cap on what size/weight you can throw with it so the only way to do it right is investing in the proper gear to accommodate those heavier long baits.
Do you need 10 fishing rods? NO not at all you just need regular gear for regular baits, then if you are into big pike or musky fishing, or even shark fishing the rods, reels and line and leaders all need to be heavy duty for sure.
A bait weight 1oz to 2oz’s is quite heavy, some of those musky baits are a pound of more so the right gear gets the job done as it should. Smaller baits like a 1/4oz 1/2oz can be used on your medium to medium heavy setups and those rod/reels can handle baits around that size just fine.
Keep this in mind and you will save yourself issue with busting your gear.
