Hi AMFisHers! Take a look at this great video I have up at AMFisH.ca this week, it’s about what to do when you have a fish follow your bait to the boat and it does not bite:

That almost helpless feeling we get when a big fish follows our bait right up to the side of the boat, take a good look then swims away….ugh what a horrible feeling.
This will happen so it’s better to be prepared instead of not knowing what to do, so in this video I talk about some keys things that can increase the chances of that fish striking.
First if the fish is following with speed you can try to pause the bait for a quick second, this will almost cause the fish to crash into the bait because it was overcommitted. If the fish is slowly following it speed up your bait as fast as possible, this will keep it’s interest in the bait and potentially chase it down.
If the fish follows with intensity you can take your bait right into a figure eight by the side of the boat, this is where you speed your bait up and using your rod to draw out a figure eight in the water. This will take lots of practice but when you have it down it can make a fish chase the bait down and still stay interested.
The figure eight basically make your bait look frantic, like it is scurrying around trying to escape and it usually results in the fish striking. Lastly if the fish follows and turn away try throwing out a slower moving bait, example you just reeled in your spinnerbait and the fish turned away, well cast out that slow sinking crankbait that suspends in place on the pause, this is another way to trigger a strike.
You can some of the time trigger that strike so be prepared and pull out all the stops to make it happen!
Hope you found this vlog helpful.
