Tips on how to use crank baits…

For those of you that don’t know what a crank bait is, it’s basically a bait designed to swim like a minnow or bait fish.   There a a number of styles, thin and long, short and chunky, but in the end they are serve the same purpose ton resemble a swimming fish.

There are various ways to fish these BUT what I always tell people is try new things with them!  In the end you can come up with whatever retrieve seems ton work for you on the waters your fish.  There are the basic ways to fish these that you should definitely always apply, 1st slow retrieve with lots of pauses that usually result in hits taking place as you pause, 2nd is a faster retrieve with sporadic pauses, what I mean here is pauses that are totally out of place.  Example: say you are retrieving the bait, you pause, retrieve retrieve, longer pause, retrieve, pause, basically you are mixing up your retrieve pattern in a very out of the box way. 3rd you can do a slow steady retrieve with no pauses at all, 4th you can do this same slow retrieve with very few pauses.

At the end of the day these are very effective baits, that fall into the search bait category, which means baits that are used ton fish water quickly cast after cast trying to trigger strikes.
