What to do when the fishing is tough.

Hi AMFisHers!   I am writing this post about what to do when you cross paths with tough fishing days.  I was away on my annual fishing trip in the Ottawa/Quebec mountains and it was the first time ever that we had a hard time catching fish.

We still landed some scattered fish here and there but the big pike and smallmouth bass were nowhere to be found.  Funny thing is we located lots of fish on the fish finders, used various baits and presentations but still no fish.

Even the slow presentation techniques like drop shots and tubes did not work, it was almost like the fish were turned off completely.  We know that we are battling really good food sources in that water system but have always caught good size fish.

Most of the missed fish were following our various baits to the boat, tapping them lightly and swimming off.  No storms had come through and the weather was amazing, completely stumped us.

So what do you do when this happens?   You go to plan B which is enjoying other things that you can do in that area.  We went for hikes, swimming, chatted on the deck, pontoon cruises up the river, naps, you name it we did it!

We definitely did not give up on the fishing we tried every morning for half a day, struggling our way through a few catches only BUT when the fishing is that slow all you can do is make the best of the outing.

When nothing is catching fish even LIVE BAIT caught nothing, you are battling other variables that come into play far beyond anything we can do to catch fish.

I hope you found this post helpful…
