Most of the time it will be the obvious that we overlook, a bait not running right every cast which is why I encourage everyone to check their bait as it nears the boat on every cast and when you pull it out of the water to cast again.
Observing everything you are doing is the best way to get better, nothing should be overlooked as being on top of everything will always add to you having the upper hand on the fish.
I have whitnessed people fishing who just refuse to see the signs and bells going off as they are not catching fish. Sometimes jumping outside of the box is what you need to do.
Focus on matching you bait with the baits you see in that water, pick colours that have worked for you in the past, then potentially try a similar bait in a different colour.
